Eclipse Foundation

eteration recognizes the value of open source software development, open development platform and application framework for building software. Moreover, we support the Eclipse Foundation by actively participating in and contributing to Eclipse Web Tools Platform (WTP) Project, J2EE Standard Tools Project (JST), Eclipse Community Education Project (ECESIS) and SOA Tools Platform Project (STP). We have made Eclipse an intricate part of our technical consultancy and services and are committed to continued support.

The Eclipse Foundation is a not-for-profit member-supported corporation that hosts community based open projects. Eclipse creates royalty-free technology and a universal platform for development tools integration, modeling, testing and functionally-rich application construction. Eclipse based offerings give developers freedom of choice in a multi-language, multi-platform, multi-vendor supported environment. Eclipse delivers a dynamic plug-in based framework that makes it easier to create and integrate technology, saving time and money. By collaborating and sharing core integration technology, technology providers can concentrate and focus on areas of expertise and differentiation. The Eclipse Platform is written in the Java language and comes with extensive plug-in construction toolkits and examples. It has already been deployed on a range of development workstations including Linux, QNX, Mac OS X and Windows-based systems. Full details of the Eclipse Foundation and white papers documenting the design of the Eclipse Platform are available at www.eclipse.org.

Web Tools Platform Project

In July 2004, ObjectWeb, eteration, IBM and others launched The Eclipse Web Tools Platform Project (WTP) under the Eclipse Foundation. The goal of WTP project is to consolidate Java Web development by providing a solid foundation for new products. Initially the project started with the contribution of ObjectWeb Lomboz™ and IBM’s WSAD product. Since it's launch, the WTP project has evolved significantly and companies and individuals alike continue to joined. WTP is already included as the foundation of commercial products.

ObjectWeb and eteration are strong supporters of the mission and promote the use of WTP in upcoming releases of ObjectWeb Lomboz™. ObjectWeb and eteration are members of the WTP Project Management Committee, and eteration leads the J2EE Standard Tools Project (JST). eteration is also a provider of tools, developer resources and server infrastructures to WTP project. Our engineers actively commit new features to WTP. eteration is also a strategic consumer of WTP with ObjectWeb Lomboz™ project, to create new advanced tools for Java Enterprise Edition (JEE) development. Project Roadmap

The content of each release is determined by a combination of both specific requirements derived from the ObjectWeb and Lomboz community and some general principles. The following general principles applies to all Lomboz™ releases.

  • Eclipse Web Tools Platform

The ObjectWeb Lomboz™ project will take advantage of new capabilities as they are added to the Web Tools Platform in order to achieve user interface consistency and seamless integration. Lomboz releases will closely follow WTP releases so that Lomboz users can quickly take advantage the latest WTP innovations.

The ObjectWeb Lomboz™ will extend the WTP with the additional of support for ObjectWeb runtimes and technologies (i.e. JOnAS), Server Infrastructure (SOA) tooling, Application Infrastructures such as portals (JSR 169/JSR 170), and development of JEE systems for GRID technologies.

  • Integrated Easy Installation

The ObjectWeb Lomboz™ project is an end-user environment. Lomboz™ will provide multiplatform installers and automatic updates to ease the adoption of Lomboz as a development environment.

  • Development Best Practices

Improvement of JEE development practices and making JEE the easiest platform to build systems is one of the primary goals of the Lomboz project. This embodies setup of workspaces and teams, management of development process, and transparent support of runtimes in development, testing, staging and production environments.

  • Executable, Customizable Tutorials

ObjectWeb Lomboz™ is also a learning environment for JEE. “TutorialMagic” is an integrated product that will teach JEE as developers start building a new system. When new technologies are introduced, Lomboz™ tutorials will become part of the toolset. Tutorial magic will also allow dissemination of project best practices or corporate guidelines, built as extensions to the Lomboz™ TutorialMagic.

SOA Tools Platform Project

eteration contributes to the eclipse SOA Tools Platform Project (STP), an eclipse project that was initiated to build frameworks and extensible tools built around Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). The STP Project’s basic objectives are as follows:

  • To build frameworks and tools that enable the design, configuration, assembly, deployment, monitoring and management of software design around SOA;
  • To distribute freely under an open source license;
  • To encourage the production of development of further material;
  • To encourage and promote the widest possible use of such material.

eteration uses eclipse successfully in both their training and projects. Based on these experiences eteration has agreed to support the STP initiative by providing courseware for development under eclipse and for building eclipse plug-ins. Our expert educators and trainers will continue to provide courseware for development under Eclipse in support of the STP, eclipse SOA Tools Platform Project. Read more......

Eclipse Community Education Project

An Eclipse Technology Research Subproject

eteration contributes to the Eclipse Community Education Project (ECESIS), a new Eclipse Technology Research subproject that was initiated to provide open source training tools and courseware for Eclipse. The ECESIS Project’s basic objectives are as follows:

  • To develop a starting set of high quality Eclipse courseware, tools, and non-course educational resources;
  • To distribute freely all educational material under an open source license;
  • To encourage the production of development of further material;
  • To encourage and promote the widest possible use of such material.

eteration uses Eclipse successfully in both their training and projects. Based on these experiences eteration has agreed to support the ECESIS initiative by providing courseware for development under Eclipse and for building Eclipse plug-ins. Our expert educators and trainers will continue to provide courseware for development under Eclipse in support of the ECESIS, Eclipse Technology Research Project. Read more......

J2EE Standard Tools Project (JST)

eteration contributes to the Eclipse J2EE Standard Tools Project (JST), an eclipse project that was initiated to extend eclipse platform with support for building multi-tier J2EE applications. The JST Project’s basic objectives are as follows:

  • To build a community of users and developers to support the building of multi-tier J2EE applications;
  • To encourage and promote eclipse as a industry standard tool integration platform for development based on Open Standards and Technologies.
  • To distribute freely under an open source license;
  • To encourage the production of development of further material;

eteration uses Eclipse successfully in both their training and projects. Based on these experiences eteration has agreed to support the JST Project initiative by providing courseware for development under Eclipse and for building Eclipse plug-ins. Our expert educators and trainers will continue to provide courseware for development under Eclipse in support of the JST, Eclipse J2EE Standard Tools Project. Read more......
